Read your sensors in 5 different ways

The Aim Evo 4 Car Racing DataLogger  samples all information you need: data coming from the Engine Control Unit (ECU) via CAN, serial line or OBDII, from the internal three-axial accelerometer, from the integrated GPS, which permits an automatic and precise lap time calculation.
Sensors can be connected to 5 configurable analog channels, to the RPM input and to 2 wheel speed inputs.

ECU Connection

The list of available ECU drivers, constantly updated and upgraded, is published here: it includes > 1,000 different ECUs, either Stock and Racing.
They are sorted by manufacturer/vehicle model: for each ECU you find the proprietary communication protocols, including the standard OBDII ones.
From a hardware point of view, AiM systems manage the following data lines:

  • CAN
  • RS232
  • K-Line

Integrated GPS

Track position analysis and a precise lap time calculation are possible thanks to the powerful integrated GPS.
With the new GPS Manager software you can also upload your system with your tracklist (up to 50 tracks): EVO4 locates the track, identifies finish-line and split points coordinates and automatically starts sampling lap time, predictive lap time and split times.

Sensors

EVO4 permits – with its dedicated inputs – connection to many sensors:

5 analog channels with configurable 12 bit 0-5 Volt, 0-500 mV, 0-50 mV inputs or thermocouple input, with 1/4000 precision, used to sample data coming from temperature, pressure, suspension sensors.

2 speed inputs, which allow to monitor the different behavior of two wheels.

1 RPM input, which manages square wave signals transmitted by the ECU, or pulse signals picked from the coil command (low voltage).

1 integrated three-axial accelerometer, fully configurable, providing all info about the effects of forces acting on your car while cornering, accelerating or braking.

MXL is a modular system, offering the possibility to increase the number of channels with a CAN connection to expansions like:

Channel Expansion

It permits to add 4 0-5Volt analog channels for pressure, temperature sensors and potentiometers. Two of these channels can be configured to receive digital inputs like wheel speed.

Installation

For a correct EVO4 installation it is important to follow some simple rules. First: carry out CAN, serial or OBDII connection only AFTER performing the logger configuration with Race Studio 2.
For a correct working of the integrated three-axial accelerometer, EVO4 is to be placed in a central position of the car (ideally where the vehicle barycentre is located).
GPS antenna is not to be positioned under metal objects, which would greatly reduce the satellite signal quality.
It is also important to avoid tightening too much the nut when fixing the connectors.
Finally, avoid to install the product with tense cables.
